The Two Who Entered the Promise Land

Recipients of the Promise

When it was time to enter the promised land, only two were determined and knew the strength and loyalty of their God. After being in slavery for so long in Egypt and seeing the awesome miraculous acts which Yaweh performed in their deliverance from their enemies, they were excited about the new frontier which their Lord was about to take them. Unfortunately the rest of their brethren were not so convinced. They lived by man not by God. They relied on their strength not the strength of the Almighty.

Numbers 13:1-20
Twelve tribes were represented in spying out the promis land, one from each tribe except, the Levites whose inheritance was the Lord.

Tribe--------------------------------------------------Spy
1.) Rueben---------------------------------------Shammua
2.) Simeon---------------------------------------Shapat
3.) Judah-----------------------------------------Caleb
4.) Issachar--------------------------------------Igal
5.) Ephraim--------------------------------------Hoshea (Joshua)
6.) Benjamin------------------------------------Palti
7.) Zebulun--------------------------------------Gaddiel
8.) Joseph (Manasseh)-------------------------Gaddi
9.) Dan-------------------------------------------Ammiel
10.) Asher---------------------------------------Sehtur
11.) Naphtali------------------------------------Hahbi
12.) Gad-----------------------------------------Geuel

Caleb (Judah) and Joshua (Ephraim) were the only spies who looked at the visible but still seen the spiritual outcome of their God, and was excited about what He was going to do.

Numbers 13:25-32
The ten spies looked at the physical, what they could see with their eves. Caleb knew that God was on their side side. He had brought them this far, so why would He leave them now. Caleb was ready to overtake the giants.

Numbers 14:1-10
The children of Israel were ready to turn their backs on the Living God. They were so adamant in turning their backs that they were ready to go back to the slavery in Egypt. And when Joshua and Caleb tried to direct them to follow the path of God, they bwecame fiercely angry with them that they wanted to stone them. The children of Israel were ready to follow anyone but the true men of God.

Moses begs God to forgive the children of Israel and their doubt. He ask God not to leave them. God promises that the children who did not believe would not receive the promised land.

Numbers 14:20-24
God promises to bring Caleb and his descendents to the promise land becausse he has a different spirit in him and has followed the LORD God fully!
1.) vs. 24 "But My servant Caleb, because he has a differnt spirit in hgim and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it."
A.) Caleb's (the Jews) will inherit the land of Canaan as a possession.

Numbers 14:36-38
God used the ten spies who gave a bad report as in example. They died without receiving the promise, so to would those who believed the bad report, instead of the report from the LORD. Only Joshua and Caleb would survive to see the promise land (and those who believed their report and trusted in God.

We have already read that God promised to bless Caleb with the promise because he followed God fully. He was obedient to God's ways. However we have not read specifically about Joshua and his receiving of the promise. God, in our reading, had already singled out Caleb and acknowledged his obedience and has promised to give him his due reward. But what does God have to say specifically about Joshua?
